My 14SB has recently started to accumulate a lot of grass clippings around the left-rear drive gear. The engagement of the pinion and drive gear isn't affected so much, but the stuff gets inside the drive gear. It's so bad that the key is prevented from functioning correctly and the shaft just spins.

I mulch my lawn and have for years. I do all my own maintenance and the mower is pretty well cared for. Yes, all the parts are in there and installed in the correct order. It gets to be a regular pain when I have to clean out that gear every 6 - 7 cuttings.

Thanks in advance!

Any chance the cover is worn? Is the chute deflector intact? Is the rubber boot on the axle still functioning, and last is the axle bushing still tight?

I've noticed I now have a dime-sized hole in that inner cover. Will remedy pronto.

Rubber boot on axle? Where? I see none on IPL ....
