Black Smoke From Briggs & Stratton 19.0

So my Dad's ride on Craftsman T2200 one day started blowing black oily smoke. Looking at it quickly today I see that it starts and runs fine but as it warms up the black smoke starts. I figured I would ask for some thoughts before I dig into it.

It's about 7 years old and he maintains his stuff pretty well. Has Brigs & Stratton Platinum 19.0 engine. Unfortunately I didn't think to get a serial number on the engine.

So what do think it could be? Head gasket? Maybe carb related?

Black smoke is usually rich and some times a spark that is too far retarded.
Rich will be because the float valve is not shutting off the fuel or the man jet has fallen out.
If the float is not working then the fuel can also leak into the engine diluting the oil ( which will smell like fuel ) .
