Issues with Honda HRR Mower

Going off the top of my head right now (it's stewing in my brain here at work), but I have a Honda HRR216VXA (Blade Clutch, smart drive, and twin blade) with a Honda GCA160. I can get further #'s when I get home later tonight.

My initial thoughts are my RPM's are down on the mower, but I want to pick the brain of those more experienced. I don't currently own a tach.

At initial start up, mower starts on first pull....and at full throttle runs fine with no hiccups, but when warmed up...if I drop it down to idle...it idles for a bit and then dies out. (also, at full throttle....it doesn't sound as though it is actually there...but I'm just "earballing" it)

Upon engagement of the blades, motor chugs down and will die out unless I nurse it in. Also, during the time of engagement when the motor chugs down, I also hear a knock - about 3 to 5 knocks until completely engaged and engine is back up to speed. I've read in the past these Honda mowers knock more when they are at idle, thus thinking the load of the blade is dropping it's RPM's down and causing the knock.

While mowing (most of the time I mulch) the lawnmower will also leave a trail on the right side of "unmulched" clippings in the thicker parts of the lawn even with new blades. I do mow regularly - 1 to 2 times a week.

As for general maintenance, I tend to stay on top of the it - oil changes, filters, spark plug, blades are new, have a local gas station that has 87 non-oxy which I run. Underside of deck is clean along with the clutch area for the blade on the underside.

Never have owned a mower with a blade clutch before, so it is an added element that may be an issue.....depending on the time/effort, I'd either look at it myself or ultimately take it in for a once over. Newer to the Sioux Falls area, so if I do bring it in locally, it'd be nice to have an idea as I don't have any experience with the local shops. It's been a good mower over the years so far.

Any further information you need, just let me know.

Thanks in advance

Steve
