JD freeom 42 deck

I haven't seen many of these mulcher decks so maybe no one here has had one but my question is can you run the deck without the belt cover that covers the belt to "time" the two blades ?...this one I have is about shot guess its due to age and is constantly warping and hitting the belt making a real bad sound . yep the belt is hitting the plastic cover. JD wants like 100 for this piece of plastic and i'm not paying a 100 for something that might be worth 20 bucks at the most anyway can I run this deck without the cover ?... thanks guys for any help

Garage
Only problem I can think of could be if a stick or pebble would bounce up in there. The timed belt might be more sensitive to that then a regular V belt.

that's about all I could think of myself mark/ohio.. over the years when I did remove the deck to check things out / replace drive belt . there was always grass build up under that cover so the cover really doesn't do much to keep grass clippings out..i just might try to fabricate a cover of some sort to keep the sticks etc out
