New to mowers, lawn or otherwise.

Hi All, I just recently moved ashore after living on a sailboat for 27 years. I've never had a lawn, or a mower for that matter but I bought a 1 acre lot in Hawaii, on the Big Island, and I'm building a house.

Some day I hope to have actual grass, but for now I just use old discarded riding mowers as tractors to haul around rock, cut trees, mulch and or yeah, ROCK!

I'll no doubt be needing a little help getting the cast off mowers running and maintained. Right now I have:

John Deere L100, no deck or deck hardware. Briggs 17 HP, runs well enough but pulses.

John Deere L130, no deck but all deck hardware is there. 23 HP Kohler. Runs well, though I think one cylinder is weak. Need to run a compression check.

Qty 2 Honda HRC216HXA, Not running, but working on them.

Thanks in advance for all your (collective) help, with my future questions.

John

Good luck finding specific decks, has been hard for me to do that. Id sell it all for parts and get a decent machine that needs a carb clean or somthing. We are here otherwise!

Yep decks go fast in this part of Hawaii. Lots of rain and people are always mowing wet grass and not cleaning out the deck. I see them all the time in the metal recycling bin at the transfer station.

One of these days I'm going to pull one out just to see how much I can do with it.

but we still dont have anything to cut besides rocks, for now.
