Mower runs then quits

A story told a thousand times. Mower runs for about 5 seconds and dies.

Ok so things I have done.

Rebuilt carb 3 times just to make sure.
Changed fuel line
Cleaned gas tank
Changed sparkplug
Took the flywheel off and checked key

The only thing I haven't done is change coil. Should do that?

First get a cheap inline spark tester so you can see whether you're getting a spark consistently: https://www.harborfreight.com/in-lin...ker-63590.html

push mower or rider?

sounds to me like its gas starved and when gas runs out its not refilling the bowl

check fuel shutoff solenoid is working

check vent on gas tank

you didnt say if it restarts right away or if it has to sit a while so have a spare spark plug in hand and check for a spark as soon as the mower dies to see if its the coil

You can only learn if you ask the question, so there are no dumb questions.

Definitely could be a fuel starvation problem. Bad coils usually don't cut out until they heat up and lose internal continuity.
