Toro personal pace recycler mowers?

I see a lot of these mowers in almost new condition for sale on Craigslist. I have also heard rumors and negative comments about them. What do you Toro owners have to.say about them?

i see the same on Craigslist , I have one that I use occasionally, it does work ok cuts thru about anything, only thing I don't care for is the way you have to push on the handle to use it, (to engage the self propelled )other than that it starts 1st pull everytime ,even after it might sit for a month or so, I did try to sell it a few times but got no response so I guess i'll keep it

The recycler is Toro's economy line. They are not bad. The newer ones had the Briggs 190cc flathead, replaced now by the 163cc OHV. They are not bad, but not great. I personally love the personal pace, and the recycler ones are fast. They cut okay, but bagging is subpar. I have a 20332, a 20370, a 20372, and a 20339. They work well.

Mines a 20043 with cast aluminum deck I bought new in 2000. I use it mostly in the fall for leaves. Has the old flathead Briggs on it. Been a good mower for me.

The personal pace is the reason I love these mowers so much. Once you figure out how to use it there is no pushing involved, keep your arms relaxed and start walking.. The other issue you have to get use to is a couple inches before you want to pull it backwards you need to let up on the handle so it rolls forward on it's own and that releases the drive. I had a couple recyclers and they do a good job mulching but the Super recycler does a much better job. They also do a good job bagging but the bag is a pain to empty compared to the Snapper High Vac system.

The recyclers I owned had the B&S 190cc engines and had plenty of power for mulching and always started on the first pull. The super recylers have the Toro 159cc OHV engine and also have plenty of power for mulching and use less gas. The super recycler has a five year warranty if you're looking to buy new but I wouldn't be afraid to buy a used Toro for the right price.

If you look hard enough you'll find complaints about any mower, Honda, Toro, Snapper all the MTD products, people tend to be vocal about the bad things and don't say much about the good things.

I hear you, Duffyjr but I see LOTS of Toros as opposed to hondas, snappers etc. I'm a Toro fan but just curious why so many are for sale on CL?

Luck of the draw, I guess. A lot of homeowners buy them, then move. If they don't run, it is probably because the owner left gas in them. The recyclers are one of the, if not the, top selling mower in the country. On my street alone (3 blocks), we have 11.

Possible that they sell more Toro mowers in your area than the others so you see more for sale. I know earlier this year I looked at the Snapper Ninja and a High Vac and Honda with the plastic deck and four blade system and they were quite a bit more $$$ so the price point might drive people to Toro.

I had one and liked it. Then was able to score a clean Honda and sold the Toro. Buy what you feel is best, just my opinion that once you have a Honda it is hard to look at another machine!
