Lawnboy 7268 Low idle

Changed the needle and float cleaned out the gas tank. Still idles slow . Still needs a shot of starting fluid to start. I check the light speed switch and it is on fast speed. When it does start the RPMs are high. In less than a minute back to idle speed. Still needs a primer ball that will fit.

Okay, I will try to address your issues. First, highly unlikely that the ports need cleaning. This was more of an issue on the old C and D-400/D-600 engines. The ports on the F are larger. Not sure i have ever encountered blocked ports on an F. When you say you need to find a primer bulb that will fit, what is the issue? You remove the primer by removing the nut under the shroud. Remove the bulb from the bulb base. Install the new bulb so that the bulb base fits in the small groove in the bulb bottom. Reinstall. I have had a few that I needed to trim a little bit off the outside of the bottom of the bulb so it would fit down in the well. The properly installed bulb should eliminate the need for starting fluid. Your speed issue sounds like a bad governor spring. The system is designed so that if the governor spring fails it kills the RPM preventing over speeding. Spring may be bent or damaged. When the mower starts and runs and then goes to idle can you manually reach under to the carb and move the air vane to speed up the RPM. Make sure the air vane is free and not binding. The governor system on these is really very simple. Once the governor spring is installed you need to set the governor. There re 2 styles of adjustment on the F series. Hex and round. The hex style has to be raised up and then turned on the splines to adjust. The round style just gets rotated and clicked. Here is a link to the governor adjustment on the F.

Post back and let us know what you find. I usually preset the governor while the carb is off the engine. Once installed and running it may need to be tweaked a bit to hit 3200 RPM. Good luck! Bill
