I'm working on this mower for a friend. The 3-speed cable housing/shift lever was broken, so it would only stay in one gear. I bought a new cable/housing and installed it. It runs fine, but still will not shift gears....it only stays in one gear. Any thoughts?
The change cable (controlled by the speed select lever) must move the shifter arm (yellow) on the outside of the transmission. The cable is anchored to the transmission case by a self-tapping screw, so make sure the cable is secure and verify the shift arm moves when changing speeds. There is a hole in the pulley to access the screw:
