7260G points?

What do I set the points to on my 7260G? Also Im not getting spark, does that allways mean that coil is bad?

I think that the capacitor would be a good place to start on the no-spark issue. .020 is the point gap setting.

What does the capacitor do? And how do you check?

Put a new capacitor in today and still no spark, I guess I could put new points in and see if that is the problem. I hope it is not the coil, they dont make that kind anymore.

This may sound strange, but many people will take the coil and very lightly wrap it in tin foil and bake it in the oven at 200 deg for about an hour. This will get the moisture out. Is the coil set the proper gap from the flywheel?

If the new points dont work I will give the oven thing a try. I was told to set the coil gap, you need to put a business card between the coil and the flywheel. That should work, right?

Well, new points are in and still no spark. Does anybody have a coil for sale?

Hello! New Member here. I just wanted to tell you folks that your 'shake and bake' idea for the coil of my 7260G was right on target. Too bad I didn't read your suggestions before I went and purchased a new one on Ebay. Now I have a spare! It works like a charm now. Healthy blue spark after sitting up for 7 years!

I cleaned it up, but when it starts it requires a good bit of priming, even having to press the bulb on/off for about a minute after firing. Then it runs roughly, or rather 'sputters'. Then it levels out at a fairly high rpm. Guess I need to dig a bit further!

I'm wondering if your seals are bad at this point. Hard starting and continual priming are one of the symptoms.
